Porcupine Adventures was founded in the early 1980’s by my father Roland Leishman. With a passion for hunting and permission from a friend who owned a large ranch, Dad shot a trophy buck in Porcupine Canyon. The huge buck in the photo you see kicked off his career as an outfitter. He named the business after the canyon where he shot that buck.
No, we don’t hunt porcupines, it was Dad who coined the phrase,
“just another porcupine adventure!”
The name stuck and is who we are today.
I grew up hunting with Dad, and now I hunt with my boys. When I was young I read countless hunting magazines, poring over every article about outfitters I could find. I dreamed it would be me one day, just like my dad, but never thought it could really happen. I had no idea that one day I would end up living my childhood dream. As I grew up I spent all my free time with Dad on hunting expeditions, learning all I could about being an outfitter. Dad promised the business to me on the condition that I get a college degree. In the mid 1990’s I graduated with a degree in Parks and Recreation from Utah State University.
Porcupine Adventures began as a family operation and is still family operated today. I have five sons who are an integral part of the business. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do today without their help.
